The Ha long bay Management Board has summarized Ha Long Bay’s heritage and environment education program three years after the EcoBoat Project, a grant from the Darwin Initiative (England), was put into operation.
Ecoboat began in August 2005 and was completed in July 2007. It consisted of a total grant of USD 112,000.
The project came from the initiative of both FFI and the Ha long bay Management Board. Over three years, Ecoboat organized 102 visits to Ha Long Bay by more than 3,000 domestic and foreign pupils and students.
Each visit introduced subjects related to Ha Long Bay such as geomorphology, biological diversity, the environment and culture, as well as measures that could be taken to protect the environment and conserve the world heritage site.
EcoBoat is a floating environmental education classroom, and the Bay is its campus. FFI-led activities give local and international youth hands-on experience grappling with environmental dilemmas.
Moreover, Ecoboat coordinated with researchers, universities and related agencies to compile a seven-book collection on the environment and ecology of the Bay.
On August 12th, FFI handed over the project to the Ha long bay Management Board to maintain and perform on the larger scale.
