Hai Phong to Take Part in France’s Brest Sea Festival

The northern city of Hai phong sent a delegation of 90 officials, as well as fishermen and artists, to the Brest Sea Festival which is being held in France from July 11 to 17.


The officials will bring with them various means of maritime transport used in Viet nam including a 12 m-long, 17-ton wooden sailing boat, small bamboo boats and coracles. Those attending the festival will have a chance to enjoy Vietnamese water puppets and traditional music together with sophisticated handicraft products.

It is a good opportunity for the country to promote Vietnam’s maritime history, economic potential, tourism destinations and traditional culture to the world.

The International Maritime Festival is held every fours years and attracts millions of visitors to Brest.
Athletes will have a chance to contemplate boats from various nations as well as sailing boats from Croatia, Galicia, Norway, Ireland, Madagascar, Martinique, Australia, and Brazil. Some of the boats are more than 100 years old. Altogether, their will be around 2,000 vessels ranging from sailing ships as large as 120 m to gigs 3-5 m in length.

Tourists will be able to visit large sailing vessels including passenger cruisers and historical boats. They can also visit the shipbuilding yards, painting exhibitions, as well as paddle a kayak or attend a performance or other event.
